Perplexity Computer now works in your own Chrome

By Steven Van ·

A new extension links the Mac and Windows apps to sites you already use, and Comet still does not need it.

Perplexity Computer's Mac and Windows apps can now work inside the Chrome you already use. Perplexity posted on October 30 that a new extension links the two, so Computer uses sites you are already signed into. The post says this is live for all Computer users in those apps, and its demo turns a business's reviews into a prioritized list of fixes and replies.

What the extension is for

The Chrome Web Store listing, offered by Perplexity AI and updated October 25, says Computer can open sites, read pages, fill forms, and finish tasks in the tabs you already have. The listing's examples are a news homepage summarized, a signed-in LinkedIn feed, invoices from a billing dashboard, an application or a booking, and a comparison across several tabs. The October 30 demo is the reviews example. The listing is version 0.0.6.

Where it runs

Install the Perplexity desktop app on a Mac or a Windows PC, add the extension, then point Computer at that browser. On a Mac that control is Settings, then Connectors. On Windows it is Settings, then Permissions. The listing says Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, and other Chromium browsers use this extension. Comet does not need it, because the same browser control is built in there. The October 30 post says the Mac and Windows apps are live for every Computer user. It does not name a plan, a minimum app version, or a country.

What it does not do on its own

The listing says Computer uses the browser only during a task you started, and that it does not collect browsing data in the background. The post does not say the extension works in the Perplexity website, on a phone, or in a browser that is not Chromium. It also does not say whether a managed work profile can install it, or what happens if you are signed out of the site Computer needs.
