TheraPlatform vs SimplePractice: Which Suits Your Practice?

By Steven Van ·

Oasys, a rival EHR vendor, says the 70% and 30% virtual-session thresholds decide between the two, and lists pricing and gaps for both.

Oasys, which makes a competing EHR, has published a comparison of Oasys Health alternatives TheraPlatform and SimplePractice, and it says the choice comes down to one number: the share of sessions held on video. The company labels its own closing section as an advertisement.

Where the two differ

The post says TheraPlatform was built around teletherapy rather than adapted for it. It cites interactive whiteboards, therapy-specific activities and resources meant to be used live with a client on screen. It names play therapy and speech work as cases where shared interactive material matters. TheraPlatform is also described as aimed at smaller organisations that want integrated telehealth and documentation without a long onboarding project.

SimplePractice is described as stronger in four areas:

  • A consistently better mobile app
  • A larger ecosystem, with more templates and community answers
  • Wider coverage of practitioner types in mixed clinics
  • A more mature client portal, where intake tends to complete more reliably

The virtual-share rule

Above roughly 70% virtual sessions, the post says TheraPlatform's session tooling pays for itself. Below about 30%, it says SimplePractice's polish and ecosystem serve a practice better. Between the two, it calls the choice close and suggests testing both with two clinicians.

Pricing

SimplePractice is listed at $49 (Starter), $79 (Essential) and $99 (Plus) a month. Group practices need Plus, with additional clinicians at $74 each for two to five, $72 for six to fifteen, and $69 for sixteen or more. TheraPlatform starts around $39 a month with a 30-day trial. The prices were verified on 30 July 2026, and the post advises confirming them before signing.

Gaps in both products

The post calls both products solo-first and names three gaps that appear as practices grow:

  • Supervision that ignores credential status, so a provisionally licensed clinician who is independently credentialed with payers gets the same forced co-sign as a first-year intern
  • Coarse permissions, where admin access is close to all-or-nothing once a practice has an office manager, a biller and clinicians who should not see each other's caseloads
  • No payroll modelling, with one practice of a couple of dozen clinicians reportedly spending about 20 hours a week of its billing manager's time turning EHR data into a payroll ledger

It suggests neither product suits practices past fifteen clinicians whose friction is in these areas. For anyone switching, it advises asking each vendor how data could be exported in three years. It names assessments, intake forms and future appointments as the items most often left behind.

Oasys describes its own product as an EHR for mental health group practices at $80 per clinician per month on an annual contract with no add-ons. It says TheraPlatform is a reasonable answer for a small, mostly virtual practice.
