Netlify Functions can now use the OpenAI SDK to classify, route, and score inputs through Netlify’s AI Gateway without configuration or API key management. The Decisions API is in beta and currently runs on gpt-6-luna.
Answers from declared choices
Instead of generating prose, the API answers questions developers define about an input. For choice questions, the answer is always one of the declared options, so a Function can branch directly on the result without parsing generated text.
Routing return requests
The announcement includes an online store example that sorts return requests into four reasons: wrong size, defective, not as described, or changed mind. A request describing a broken jacket zipper returns “defective”, alongside probabilities for each option and a confidence score.
The selected reason can determine whether to send a prepaid label or offer an exchange. The confidence score can help route unclear requests to a support team.
