MacroD runs local coding agents from Macro chat

By Steven Van ·

A local daemon starts Claude Code or Codex when you mention it in Macro, with no public tunnel, on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

On October 29, Macro introduced MacroD, a local daemon that connects coding agents on your machine, or on a cloud instance, to Macro. Mention an agent in a channel, document, or thread and a session starts.

Official Macro announcement demo.

The post says the session drives Claude Code or Codex on your machine, and it also names Herdr. It says MacroD fetches the repo, makes a worktree off main, and can open a GitHub pull request, with no tunnel or open port. It is bundled in the desktop app or installable with a CLI.

The bring-your-own-agent docs confirm the daemon, no public tunnel, and macOS, Linux, and Windows. They list Claude Code, Codex, and a custom command. They do not mention Herdr, a worktree, or opening a pull request. The post does not list a price.
