Ideogram Vector turns prompts and images into editable SVGs
By Steven Van ·
The model is live in Ideogram and the API, with text-to-vector from $0.13 and image-to-vector at $0.10.
Ideogram shipped Ideogram Vector on October 22, its first vector model. From a text prompt it generates clean, editable SVGs with smooth gradients and sharp typography, and it can turn an image into a detailed, scalable vector. It is live in Ideogram and in the API.
How it works
Describe a design and the model returns an editable SVG you can scale, recolor, and refine one shape at a time. An existing image can be converted and compared with the SVG. Ideogram says the artwork stays sharp from a small label to a large poster.
The API calls that model as ideogram-vector-1. Text to vector, POST /v2/svg/generate/ideogram-vector-1, needs a prompt. Image references are optional, and quality is low, medium, or high, defaulting to medium. Image to vector, POST /v2/svg/vectorize/ideogram-vector-1, converts a JPEG, PNG, or WEBP of up to 50 MB without a prompt. Simple mode draws fewer, simpler shapes. The default mode keeps more fine detail. Grouping shapes into layers is not yet available.
Availability
The vector page lists API prices in US dollars per SVG. Text to vector is $0.13 at low, $0.16 at medium, and $0.20 at high for a prompt alone. Low and medium stay at those prices with image references. High with references is $0.32. Image to vector is $0.10 per image. The announcement and the vector page do not say how many in-app credits a generation uses, or which plan is required. An SVG asset downloads as the original .svg file. Choosing PNG, JPEG, or WEBP for a regular image still saves a pixel file, and writing "vector" in a prompt does not create vector paths. Ideogram says app availability can vary.
Why it matters
Ideogram Vector is the first model the company has shipped that writes the SVG itself, so a logo, print, or illustration can be scaled and edited as shapes.
