HyperFrames v0.8.211

By Steven Van ·

Graded clips no longer render blank on real GPUs, new projects start on black, and the audio docs now state that tracks sum at unity with no limiter.

Graded clips in HyperFrames now draw on real GPUs instead of coming out as a blank frame, including clips zoomed far past the screen. New blank projects also start on a black frame rather than grey. Both changes are in v0.8.211.

Fixes

  • Core: a graded clip's canvas no longer comes out blank on a real GPU.
  • CLI: a new blank project starts on a black frame, not grey.
  • CLI: local servers never bind a port that Chromium refuses to load from.
  • Producer: a path whose name starts with two dots now counts as inside its folder.
  • Dx: lint and the Claude pre-commit hook are unblocked on Windows.

Performance

The craft pass in the CLI's check command now skips clips the runtime has hidden.

Audio docs: tracks sum at unity

The release also includes a documentation change to the audio effects reference. It states that the render sums every track at unity and applies no averaging. A track at data-volume="1" sits in the mix at its source level whether it plays alone or beside twenty others, and a clip ending does not raise the ones still playing.

  • data-volume, a volume lane, fades and a group fader each scale only their own track or group. Doubling a voice moves that voice +6 dB, while the effect on the whole mix depends on what else is playing at that moment.
  • Nothing limits the sum. Loud overlapping tracks can pass 0 dBFS and clip in the exported AAC. The docs suggest leaving headroom, or adding a limiter or truepeak on the master bus.
  • The render's master gain, PRODUCER_AUDIO_GAIN (default 1), multiplies the finished sum once, before the master bus chain.
  • To check a level, compare the export against its source scaled by the data-volume you wrote, in a window where only that track plays.
