ChatGPT can now use your health records in any chat

OpenAI made ChatGPT a place people bring their health data. Health in ChatGPT rolled out to all US users 18 and older, across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro, on web and iOS. Connect Apple Health and records from US hospital systems, One Medical, or Function Health, and ChatGPT can pull your medications, lab results, recent visits, sleep, and activity into any conversation, with your permission.
From a hub to any conversation
OpenAI first tested this in January as a dedicated health hub. The redesign is the important change: connected health information can now be referenced in any ChatGPT conversation, not just a walled-off section. So you can ask a normal question, about a symptom, a medication interaction, how your sleep is trending, and ChatGPT answers with your actual data in context rather than generic advice. That's a meaningfully different product than a separate health tool you have to remember to open.
The scale behind the move
The demand is already enormous. OpenAI says people were making 230 million health-related queries a week during early testing, a number that has since climbed to 300 million. That's the real rationale: people are already using ChatGPT as a first stop for health questions, so grounding those answers in their own records is a natural, if consequential, next step.
Privacy is the whole conversation
Handing an AI your medical records is not a small decision, and coverage of the launch reflected that, alongside enthusiasm, there's real scrutiny of the privacy implications. OpenAI frames it as permissioned and user-controlled, and the connection is opt-in. But it's worth being deliberate: this is your most sensitive data, and "can reference it in any conversation" is powerful and worth understanding before you enable it. For creators and everyone else, the feature is genuinely useful for making sense of your own numbers, just go in clear-eyed about what you're connecting.
Availability
Health in ChatGPT is rolling out now to logged-in US users 18+ on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro, on web and iOS, though OpenAI notes the gradual rollout may take several weeks to reach every account. Details are in OpenAI's announcement.
