Grok Imagine's Image 2.0 model launches with new editing tools

Quality Mode is live on web and mobile, with magic wand, segmentation, background removal and multi-image editing; API access is coming.
Grok Imagine's Image 2.0 model is now generally available as Quality Mode on grok.com/imagine and in the iOS and Android apps, with API access coming as grok-imagine-image-2.0. It's built for closer instruction-following, including typography and layout in dense, multi-part visuals, and for preserving details across generations and edits.
Editing gets several new tools:
- A magic wand that edits only the region pointed at
- Segmentation to select precise areas for changes
- Background removal that exports a subject with a transparent background
- Multi-reference editing with up to 5 input images in one generation
- Smart resize, which fills in the frame when a ratio is changed
xAI also added templates that package common workflows, such as photo editing, product shots, headshots, icons, and game assets, into ready-made starting points. On the Arena leaderboards, Image 2.0 ranks second in the world in both text-to-image generation and image editing, as of 7 August 2026.
