Eight million downloads in six months
By Steven Van ·
Six months after its first commit, the open-source codebase mapper averages about 44,000 PyPI downloads a day and has nearly 12,000 forks.
Graphify passed 8 million PyPI downloads six months to the day after its first commit on 5 April, and its repository has been forked nearly 12,000 times. The team puts the average at about 44,000 downloads a day since the start.
Why downloads, not stars
Founder Safi Shamsi says the team watches downloads more closely than stars. In the announcement's words, a star is a bookmark, while a download is someone running Graphify on their own code, in CI, in a dev container or on a laptop. The team wrote about crossing 100,000 GitHub stars in August, and describes the download count as the number underneath that one.
What the tool does
The vendor says nothing about how the tool works has changed. Typing /graphify in an assistant returns a map of the codebase in about thirty seconds. Parsing runs on the user's machine with tree-sitter, every edge is tagged EXTRACTED or INFERRED, and nothing is sent anywhere. The open-source engine stays open source.
Graphify Cloud
The post also notes that Graphify Cloud is live at app.graphify.com. It is the always-on version, which keeps code, docs and meetings mapped in the background and queryable from anywhere. Details are in the original announcement.
