Chrome's Gemini can now save prompts as reusable "Skills

Rolling out today on Mac, Windows and ChromeOS for English-US Chrome users, with a library of premade Skills to start from.
Chrome can now save a Gemini prompt as a "Skill" and run it again with one click, instead of retyping the same prompt on every new page. Skills are saved directly from chat history in Gemini in Chrome and triggered by typing a forward slash (/) or clicking the plus (+) button; each one runs on the current tab plus any other tabs selected, and can be edited or replaced at any time.
- Early testers built Skills for things like calculating protein macros from a recipe, generating side-by-side spec comparisons across multiple tabs, and scanning long documents for key information.
- Google is also shipping a library of premade Skills, including ones for breaking down a product's ingredients or picking a gift by cross-referencing budget with a recipient's interests. Any library Skill can be saved and customised by editing its prompt.
- Skills use the same safeguards as other Gemini in Chrome prompts, asking for confirmation before actions like adding a calendar event or sending an email.
Saved Skills sync to any signed-in Chrome desktop device and are managed by typing / in Gemini in Chrome and clicking the compass icon. The rollout starts today on Mac, Windows and ChromeOS, for users with Chrome's language set to English-US.
