Update your IDE to restore agent activity in Copilot usage metrics
By Steven Van ·
The fix is available in VS Code 1.139.0 and later, with other IDE updates expected by November; missing activity cannot be recovered.
Some Copilot agent activity has been missing from GitHub’s usage reports because sessions using the Copilot SDK did not identify their IDE. Most of that activity was omitted, while some was counted as Copilot CLI activity. Only IDE versions using the SDK for agent mode are affected; developers on earlier versions are still counted.
Fixed IDE versions
Updating to a fixed version restores agent activity reporting in the Copilot usage metrics dashboard and API. The rollout schedule is:
- Visual Studio Code: version 1.139.0 and later, available now.
- Visual Studio: version 18.12, expected in October 2026.
- JetBrains IDEs: the next plugin release, expected by late October 2026.
- Eclipse and Xcode: their next plugin releases, expected by November 2026.
Missing activity cannot be recovered
Agent interactions and agent lines of code remain undercounted until developers update. This affects enterprise, organization and user reports, across both 1-day and 28-day reporting periods. Missing activity cannot be backfilled, so reports should recover gradually as developers move to fixed versions.
Billing is unaffected. Teams managing IDE versions centrally can plan updates around the fixed releases.
