Upcoming deprecation of selected GitHub Copilot models

GitHub is deprecating four Copilot models on 2 October 2026: Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini 3.6 Flash, Kimi K2.7 Code, and Claude Opus 4.7. The change applies across Copilot Chat, inline edits, ask and agent modes, and code completions. Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini 3.6 Flash are both replaced by Gemini 3.8 Flash, Kimi K2.7 Code by Kimi K3, and Claude Opus 4.7 by Claude Opus 5.

GitHub says workflows and integrations using these models should be updated before the deprecation date. Copilot Enterprise and Business administrators may need to enable the replacement models through their organization or enterprise Copilot model policies before users can select them in the Copilot Chat model picker. No action is required to remove the deprecated models once October 2nd passes. Enterprise customers with questions are directed to their account team. See the full announcement for details.
