Selected models in GitHub Copilot deprecated

By Steven Van ·

Gemini 3.5 and 3.6 Flash, Kimi K2.7 Code and Claude Opus 4.7 are gone, and Enterprise admins may need to enable the replacement models.

Four models were deprecated across all GitHub Copilot experiences on October 2, 2026, according to the announcement. That covers Copilot Chat, inline edits, ask and agent modes, and code completions.

  • Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini 3.6 Flash: use Gemini 3.8 Flash
  • Kimi K2.7 Code: use Kimi K3
  • Claude Opus 4.7: use Claude Opus 5.5

GitHub asks users to update workflows and integrations to supported models. No action is needed to remove the deprecated models.

Copilot Enterprise administrators may need to enable the replacement models through their model policies in Copilot settings. Once a policy is enabled for a model, it appears in the Copilot Chat model selector in VS Code and on github.com. GitHub Enterprise customers with questions are directed to their account manager.
