GitHub Copilot for JetBrains 1.18.0 adds new controls for agent sessions, including AI-assisted tool approvals and the ability to re-edit earlier messages, as detailed in the Copilot for JetBrains feedback repository.
- Assisted approvals, now in public preview, automatically approve low-risk tool calls in Copilot agent sessions, while higher-risk actions still prompt for a decision.
- You can re-edit a previous message in an agent session. Copilot rewinds both the conversation and file changes before sending the replacement, so the session continues from that point instead of adding a correction on top.
- Local and agent sessions now support organization and enterprise skills, along with organization-managed custom instructions.
- The Codex agent gains plan mode, so you can review, refine, or approve a plan before it starts making changes.
- A new setting turns the built-in GitHub MCP Server on or off without affecting manually configured MCP servers, and agent sessions get persistent per-tool controls for MCP servers.
- A side-by-side chat panel switcher in the session toolbar lets you chat in the editor while browsing sessions in the tool window.
