Multi-repo support and other improvements for GitHub in Slack and Teams
By Steven Van ·
Copilot in Slack and Teams can now handle several repositories in one chat, and @GitHub can be mentioned anywhere in a message.
GitHub Copilot in Slack and Microsoft Teams can now work across multiple repositories in a single conversation. GitHub says this removes the need to switch between conversations to get information from different repos, as its changelog entry describes.
Multi-repo questions
Requests to @GitHub can span repositories, whether the task is tracking pull requests, investigating issues or catching up on project activity. GitHub gives these example prompts:
- Track your work: "@GitHub Show me all my open pull requests across repositories and highlight which ones need my attention."
- Get updates: "@GitHub What pull requests were merged this week across my repositories?"
- Investigate issues: "@GitHub Help me investigate an issue that spans our frontend and backend repositories."
- Review progress: "@GitHub Summarize recent activity across our repositories."
These can be asked directly in Slack or Microsoft Teams.
Other improvements
- More natural conversations: @GitHub can be mentioned anywhere in a message, not just at the beginning.
- Smoother repository switching: moving between repositories during a conversation is easier.
- Better Slack conversation context: @GitHub can use shared Slack messages and threads as context, so discussions can be referenced without copying and pasting details.
- Improved reliability: GitHub made changes to reduce errors, improve task startup, and help @GitHub recover more smoothly from interruptions in Slack and Teams.
