GPT-6 Astra is generally available in GitHub Copilot
GPT-6 Astra rolls out gradually to Copilot Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans across IDEs, the CLI, GitHub.com and mobile.
GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI's latest general-purpose model, is now generally available in GitHub Copilot's model picker for Copilot Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans. GitHub built it for long-horizon, autonomous coding and agentic tasks: in its own testing, the model stood out for planning and validating as it goes, batching diagnosis with verification, and independently confirming its results before declaring a task done, which produced stronger performance on long-horizon coding tasks with fewer steps than prior OpenAI models.
The rollout is gradual across Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI, Copilot coding agent, the Copilot app, github.com, GitHub Mobile, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode and Eclipse. The model is billed at provider list pricing under usage-based billing. Copilot Business and Enterprise admins can manage access through the model policy in Copilot settings; under GitHub's default enablement policy, new models are turned on automatically unless an admin has changed that default or disabled this model specifically.
