GitHub Copilot weekly releases — September 28

By Steven Van ·

Copilot adds dynamic workflows and desktop app automation in public preview, alongside new models, Azure canvases and VS Code 1.140 improvements.

GitHub’s September 28 weekly release brings new Copilot models, reusable workflows, desktop app automation, Azure canvases and VS Code updates. Here are the main changes in the weekly release.

New models and HydraFusion

Claude Sonnet 5.5 is available to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise users. GPT-6.1 Sol is available to Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise users. HydraFusion, now in research preview across VS Code, the Copilot app and Copilot CLI, can select and coordinate models for a task. GitHub says it also provides clearer, more frequent progress updates.

Reusable dynamic workflows

Dynamic workflows let teams define a repeatable process in code, such as running release checks, investigating failures and pausing for someone to review the result. You can describe the steps and ask Copilot to write a workflow, or write it yourself. The public preview is available in Copilot CLI, the Copilot app and the SDK. Copilot CLI requires experimental features to be enabled; see GitHub’s dynamic workflows guide.

Computer use in desktop apps

Copilot CLI and the Copilot app can now automate tasks in desktop apps on macOS and Windows, in public preview. Copilot can navigate apps, edit content and move information between workflows, including in software without an API or command-line interface. It asks for approval before controlling an app. GitHub’s computer use guide describes the feature.

Azure canvases and VS Code 1.140

The Copilot app adds three Azure canvases for querying resources, checking cost health and using Azure Functions hosted skills. They’re available in the Awesome Copilot marketplace under Customize > Plugins.

VS Code 1.140 adds experimental multi-folder agent sessions and experimental reuse of ignored folders across worktrees, which can avoid repeated dependency installs and duplicate artifacts. See the full release notes for the other VS Code changes.
