Default Enablement of Copilot Features for Copilot Business and Enterprise

Enterprise and Business admins get one default setting for new Copilot features and models, taking effect October 22, 2026.
Copilot Business and Enterprise admins can now set a single default policy for generally available GitHub Copilot features and models, instead of configuring each one individually. It's found on the "AI Controls" page, under the Copilot subpage's "Default policy for new features" option, with a choice of Enabled, Disabled, or Let organizations decide.
- The policy can be configured today, but it won't change what users actually see until October 22, 2026, when it starts applying to new and existing GA features left unconfigured.
- It covers features on the enterprise's Features & clients page, plus the Copilot Code Review policy and the MCP servers in Copilot policy.
- Features an admin has already explicitly enabled or disabled keep that setting; only unconfigured ones follow the new default.
- Preview features remain opt-in, and existing opt-in choices carry over once a preview feature reaches GA.
- A separate default policy for models is already active, though open-weight models and models not covered by GitHub's data retention agreement stay disabled regardless of the setting.
