Copilot model policy API for enterprise, orgs, and teams
By Steven Van ·
Enterprise, team, app and organization model policies can now be managed by REST API, for Copilot Business and Enterprise plans.
Copilot model policies can now be read and updated through the REST API, with GET and PATCH endpoints generally available at four levels. GitHub documents the model-availability controls these endpoints manage.
Endpoints
- Enterprise: /enterprises/{enterprise}/copilot/model-policies
- Enterprise teams: /enterprises/{enterprise}/teams/{team_slug}/copilot/model-policies
- Enterprise apps: /enterprises/{enterprise}/copilot/apps/model-policies
- Organization: /orgs/{org}/copilot/model-policies
How delegation works
Enterprise policies can delegate model control to organizations in organization mode, or to teams and apps in enterprise teams mode. In the documentation, enterprise teams mode is an opt-in preview. When it is on, organization-level model settings are deactivated and owners can no longer manage model policies at that level.
In either mode, each model can be set to enabled, disabled, or delegated. Team settings are additive to the enterprise baseline: a model the enterprise has disabled cannot be enabled for a team, and a user in several enterprise teams gets every model that any of those teams enables.
Availability
The documentation lists the feature for enterprise owners on Copilot Business or Copilot Enterprise. The same settings are available in the web interface under the enterprise's AI controls.
