Copilot budget increase requests are generally available

By Steven Van ·

Org and enterprise admins can approve, adjust, or deny member requests for more Copilot AI credits without leaving their settings.

Organization owners, enterprise owners, and billing managers can now approve, adjust, or deny requests for additional Copilot budget from within their own settings. Previously, a member who used up all the AI credits in their budget was simply blocked from Copilot features that consume credits; now they can request more the moment they hit the limit.

  • Requests route automatically to whichever account pays for the budget: an organization's settings for org-owned budgets, or an enterprise's settings for enterprise-owned ones.
  • Reviewers find pending requests under "Requests from members", set a new amount for each, and select Approve and increase.
  • Approving a request updates the member's budget to the amount entered and immediately restores their access to AI credits.

The feature is available on GitHub Copilot Business and GitHub Copilot Enterprise plans under usage-based billing. See the full announcement for setup details. GitHub members can now request a budget increase directly when they run out of credits.
