The background agent starts rolling out to US Pro subscribers, with more countries to follow.
Google is widening access to its always-on agent. Gemini Spark is now starting to roll out to Google AI Pro subscribers in the US, with more countries coming soon. Spark, the personal AI agent that works in the background to get things done under your direction, is no longer confined to the most expensive tier.
Down a tier is a big deal
Spark launched as the centerpiece of Google's top AI Ultra subscription, an always-on background agent you delegate recurring work to. Bringing it to the more accessible AI Pro tier significantly widens who can use it. Flagship agent features usually stay premium for a while; moving Spark down to Pro this quickly signals Google's confidence in it and its intent to make background agents a mainstream part of the Gemini experience rather than a luxury add-on.
What Spark does
Spark is a personal agent that runs in the background 24/7 under your direction, the kind of assistant you hand recurring work and let run rather than one you open for a single question. It's the consumer face of the ambient-agent trend, AI that keeps working while you don't, and its value depends on the delegation habit: the users who get the most from it are the ones who assign it standing tasks.
Geographic expansion too
The rollout is US-first on AI Pro, with more countries coming, standard Google phased expansion. So not every AI Pro subscriber gets it instantly, but the direction is set: Spark is broadening on both axes, cheaper tier and more regions. It follows Spark's earlier expansion to more countries on Ultra, a steady widening of an agent Google clearly wants in more hands.
Check your access
If you're a Google AI Pro subscriber in the US, Spark may be appearing in your Gemini app now. The way to get value from it is delegation: give it a recurring task to run in the background rather than treating it like a one-off chat.
