Gemini in Chrome launches in the UK

The AI assistant now reads across open tabs to summarize pages and compare options on UK desktop Chrome.
Google brought Gemini into the browser for British users. Gemini in Chrome launched in the UK, adding AI help to the desktop browser that works regardless of which tab you're in, summarizing pages, comparing options, answering questions, and helping you multitask across everything you have open.
AI that sees the whole browser
The meaningful phrase is regardless of the tab you're in. This isn't a chatbot in a sidebar you paste into, it's Gemini with context on the pages you have open, so you can ask it to summarize the article you're reading, compare the three products across your tabs, or pull the answer out of a long page without leaving it. That cross-tab awareness is what turns browser AI from a novelty into a genuine multitasking tool, the browser is where most knowledge work happens, and now the assistant lives there.
The browser is the new battleground
Putting Gemini in Chrome is Google defending its most strategic surface. AI-native browsers and assistant extensions have been circling the browser as the next interface, and Chrome's billions of users make it the highest-stakes place to embed an assistant. For Google, native Gemini in Chrome is both a moat and a distribution channel that no competitor can match at that scale.
Part of Gemini going everywhere
The UK launch is one more node in July's Gemini-everywhere push, avatars in the Gemini app, AI Overviews in Drive, Omni editing in Vids, and now the browser itself. The rollout being UK-first also reflects how these features expand: region by region, with the UK often early in Google's international sequencing. If you're a UK Chrome user, the assistant is arriving on desktop now.
