Gamma 5 agent: generate and edit through the API

By Steven Van ·

The Gamma agent can now build gammas from a prompt and edit existing ones through the API, MCP server and the ChatGPT and Claude connectors.

Gamma's API now has an agent that plans and builds a gamma from a prompt. Gamma described the change in its API changelog, and it covers both generating new gammas and editing existing ones.

Generating with the agent

POST /agent/generations has the Gamma agent plan and build a gamma from a prompt. A request can optionally start from a workspace template, an existing gamma, or an official Explore template, the last of which is passed as templateId.

Editing existing gammas

POST /agent/gammas/{gammaId}/edits edits an existing gamma from a natural-language instruction. The edit runs asynchronously, so the result is checked by polling GET /agent/edits/{editId}.

Pricing and MCP

Both agent endpoints are priced by the work the agent does. The MCP server exposes editing as edit_gamma and get_edit_status, and the ChatGPT and Claude connectors can now edit existing gammas.
