Framer MCP
By Steven Van ·
Framer's new MCP server lets Codex, Claude Code, Cursor and other AI clients work on the canvas, edit CMS content and publish a project.
Framer now has an MCP server, so AI tools such as Codex, Claude Code and Cursor can connect to a Framer project through the Model Context Protocol. According to Framer's Academy lesson, the agent can work on the canvas, manage CMS content and publish the site. It keeps its own files, context and tools while working on the project it is pointed to.
Connecting a client
In Codex, in the ChatGPT desktop app, open the Plugins tab, search for Framer and install the official Framer plugin. It connects Codex to the Framer MCP server. Then continue to Framer and allow access to your account. After that, any chat can connect to any of your Framer projects.
Claude (desktop app), Claude Code (terminal), Cursor and other clients that support remote MCP connections can also be used. Check for a Framer plugin first. If there isn't one, add the Framer MCP server manually, following the instructions at framer.com/mcp, and authorize your Framer account. The setup screen varies by client, but the steps are the same: connect to the server and authorize access.
Pointing the agent at a project
Open the project in Framer, click Invite and copy the Project Link. Start a new chat, write "Connect to" and paste the link. The agent connects and waits for instructions. In a Codex project, you can ask it to remember the site so future chats don't need the link.
Using it with other tools
The lesson gives several examples of combining Framer MCP with other tools:
- Sort a local folder of case studies, articles and team photos and prepare it for the Framer CMS.
- Pull a design reference from Figma, a client brief from Google Drive, or feedback from Slack.
- With scheduled tasks, run weekly keyword checks with Ahrefs or prepare an analytics report in Notion before a meeting.
Framer says it works wherever the AI tool does, from desktop to phone. The Academy lesson is a 3:53 video walkthrough that uses Codex.
