Frame.io Drive mounts projects as local folders

By Steven Van ·

Footage opens directly in Premiere, Photoshop or After Effects; Enterprise access starts April 15, other plans to follow.

Frame.io Drive is a new desktop app that mounts Frame.io projects as local drives, so footage shows up in Finder or Explorer and opens directly in Premiere, Photoshop, or After Effects without downloading first. It builds on the earlier Frame.io Transfer app, streaming media on demand and caching it locally for playback, so work can start as soon as a project is mounted instead of waiting for files to sync or a drive to arrive.

The feature runs on a new backend, Frame.io Mounted Storage, which is included with every Frame.io account. Frame.io says the goal is a single shared workspace for distributed teams, so editorial, design, and marketing can all work from the same mounted project instead of sending transfer links or shipping physical drives between locations.

Access begins April 15 for Enterprise customers, with other plans following shortly after. Accounts not yet enabled can join a waitlist.
