Descript's transition library grows to 16, opens an API beta
April also brings live captions in Rooms, Seedance 2.0 for video generation, and a Media library panel.
Descript's April release touches editing, Rooms, generation, and adds an API beta open to everyone.
- Transitions: the panel now shows animated previews in a grid layout, the library has grown to 16 total transitions (adding Clock Wipe, Shape Wipe, Double Linear Wipe, Move In & Out, Push-Pull Scale, Flip, Split, and Shake), and a new bulk-apply option applies the same transition across every scene at once.
- Live captions in Rooms: a real-time caption overlay can be turned on from the Rooms toolbar, next to the Comment and Teleprompter buttons, and moved around the screen as needed. Also in Rooms, background noise reduction now defaults to off for new users (hosts can toggle it for everyone from the sidebar), and a recording restarts automatically if a camera drops and reconnects mid-session.
- Media panel: the sidebar's Media panel now lets you browse and import files from your Media library without leaving the project. On Business or Enterprise plans, it also gives access to Brand Studio assets.
- Seedance 2.0 is now available to all users as a video generation model, from the AI Tools panel's Generate media section.
- The Descript API is now in open beta for all users. You can generate an API token to import media and create and edit projects with Underlord from your own tools, and it supports MCP connections so a model like Claude can take actions in Descript directly.
Other changes: Underlord now uses reasoning models for tasks like script writing, episode planning, and multi-step edits; uploads resume automatically after a network drop or laptop sleep instead of restarting; locked layers can be unlocked directly from the canvas; and Settings → Invoices now shows the upcoming invoice plus six months of history by default. The Hedra Character 2 avatar model has been turned off after Hedra discontinued it, with Kling now the default. Full notes, including a long list of editor and speaker-detection bug fixes, are in the changelog.
