Japanese Numerals on Multilingual Models
By Steven Van ·
Numerals now formats Japanese on Nova-3 and Nova-3 Medical multilingual and Flux Multilingual, while Hindi stays unsupported.
The numerals parameter in Deepgram now formats Japanese (ja) on multilingual models. According to the Numerals documentation, this covers model=nova-3&language=multi, model=nova-3-medical&language=multi and model=flux-general-multi. Japanese formatting already worked on monolingual requests.
What numerals does
Numerals converts numbers from written to numerical format. "Nine hundred" becomes "900", and "nine hundredth" becomes "900th". It is off by default and is switched on by adding numerals=true to the query string.
Language limits on multilingual models
A multilingual model formats numbers only in the languages Numerals supports, 20 in all. It leaves numbers as words in every other language it transcribes. Hindi is not supported. On Flux Multilingual, numeral formatting covers English, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch and Japanese.
Toggling during a stream
On the Nova streaming API (/v1/listen), numerals can be turned on or off mid-stream with a Configure message that nests the setting under features. On Flux STT (/v2/listen), numerals is a top-level field in the Configure message. The change applies only to transcripts sent after the message is processed.
