Correction: over-limit Configure keyterm updates on /v1/listen

By Steven Van ·

Exceeding 500 tokens stops Nova-3 transcription without an Error, then closes the stream after about 30 seconds.

An over-limit keyterm update during a Nova-3 stream stops transcription without returning an Error. Deepgram has corrected its October 2 entry, which said the update would return an Error and leave the stream’s keyterms unchanged.

Check the token count before updating

Each mid-stream keyterm update has a 500-token limit across all keyterms. If a Configure message exceeds that limit on /v1/listen, transcription stops and, after about 30 seconds, the server closes the stream with code 1011 (NET-0000).

The corrected documentation advises checking the list size before sending the update.
