Claude adds support for MCP Tasks and Elicitations

Claude can now hand plugins long-running jobs such as deep research through MCP Tasks, and report back when they finish, plus support Elicitations.
Anthropic is adding support for MCP Tasks and Elicitations in Claude, its developer account announced on October 23.
Tasks let Claude give plugins long-running jobs, such as deep research, instead of waiting on a single quick call. Claude reports back once the job is done.
Elicitations are the other half of the update. In the Model Context Protocol, they let a connected tool pause and ask the user for extra input mid-task. Anthropic’s post did not say which Claude apps or plans get the features first.
