Claude renames Max 5x to Max and Max 20x to Ultra

Max stays $100 a month and Ultra stays $200, while newer Ultra accounts keep a temporary 5-hour limit until they are verified.
On October 30, 2026, Claude said it is renaming its Max plans. Max 5x becomes Max, and Max 20x becomes Ultra. Max is still $100 a month, Ultra is still $200, and a current subscriber does not need to do anything for the rename.
Who loses the 5-hour limit
Claude is removing the 5-hour limit for verified Ultra accounts, starting the day of the post for most existing subscribers. Newer accounts keep a temporary 5-hour limit until they are verified. The post says that limit helps prevent fraud and abuse, and that those accounts get an email when it is removed. Weekly limits remain unchanged. The announcement does not extend the removal to Max, the plan formerly called Max 5x.
The names on the pricing page
Checked the same day, claude.com/pricing uses the new names. Max is labeled for all-day work at $100 a month. Ultra is labeled for the longest tasks at $200 a month. The comparison table lists Max at 5x Pro usage every 5 hours and every week, and Ultra with no 5-hour limit and 10x Pro usage every week. A footnote says the missing 5-hour limit applies to verified accounts. The FAQ repeats that split. The payment table lists both plans as monthly. The official image shows four cards labeled Free, Pro, Max, and Ultra, with Ultra in front, and it does not print prices.
What stays in place
The post does not say Max loses its 5-hour window, and the pricing page still lists one on Max. It does not give a date for when every newer Ultra account is verified, only that the temporary limit stays until then and that an email follows when it is gone. The pricing page does not say the weekly multipliers changed with the rename. The post is the source for weekly limits remaining unchanged, and it does not print those multipliers.
