Claude Opus 5 lands as a cheaper, top-scoring model

Priced at $5/$25 per million tokens, it's now default on Claude Max and Anthropic's strongest model available on Claude Pro.
Anthropic has released Claude Opus 5, positioning it as close to Claude Fable 5's intelligence at half the price. Pricing stays at $5/$25 per million tokens, and it's now the default model on Claude Max and the strongest available on Claude Pro.
On coding and knowledge work, Opus 5 sets a new state of the art: it more than doubles Opus 4.8's score on Frontier-Bench v0.1, and on CursorBench 3.2 it comes within 0.5% of Fable 5's peak score at half the cost per task. On OSWorld 2.0, a computer-use benchmark, it beats every other model at any given cost and surpasses Fable 5's best result at just over a third of the cost. It remains behind Mythos 5 on cybersecurity tasks. It also shows gains on scientific research evaluations, including a 10.2 percentage point improvement over Opus 4.8 on an internal organic chemistry benchmark and 7.7 points on protein function prediction.
The model is available today in the API, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork, with Fast mode support.
