Claude Duet briefs you and keeps working when you step away

By Steven Van ·

A waitlisted research preview for US Pro and Max subscribers on iOS, Android and claude.ai.

Claude opened a research preview of Claude Duet on October 21. It’s a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent: it sends a morning brief, takes tasks you hand it, and keeps working when you step away.

Claude Duet is designed around Claude Opus 5.5. Each morning it sends a short brief on the most important items across your connected apps. Throughout the day it checks those accounts every few hours rather than continuously, so the checks don’t burn through your plan’s limits, and it messages you only when something needs your attention. You can hand it a task in one ongoing thread, by typing or voice, from scheduling a meeting to building a dashboard, a forecast, a prototype or a web app.

The work runs on a virtual machine with its own browser, so your laptop or phone doesn’t have to stay on. Claude Duet notifies you when a task is done or needs a review. Memory, skills and connected apps from your Claude account carry over.

It can read, draft and prepare work on its own. Sending a message, making a payment, signing a document or deleting anything waits until you approve the exact action. Trading securities and moving money between accounts stay off-limits even if you approve them. You can disconnect any app it can access.

It can use more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace, including Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe, Gusto, LinkedIn, Docusign, HubSpot, Canva and Shopify. Purchases go through Stripe’s Link or Shopify’s Shop Pay, and each charge still needs your approval. Signing in with saved 1Password logins is coming soon.

The research preview is waitlisted for Pro and Max subscribers in the US, on iOS, Android and claude.ai. It’s included in those plans and shares their usage limits. Background checks count toward those limits, and larger tasks, such as a financial model or a deck, use more of them. Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet. For now Claude Duet is its own app, separate from the main Claude app. It can still misread a thread or misjudge what’s urgent, personal errands such as booking tickets are weaker, and it can’t yet show you its browser.
