OpenAI removed one of the biggest walls in front of browsing agents: the login screen. Your ChatGPT Work agent can now use websites that require you to sign in. Take over the cloud browser to log in, then let your agent continue the task, and your login persists across sessions, so you only have to sign in once.
Logged-in sites are where the real work is
Most agent demos operate on the open, logged-out web, which conveniently avoids the fact that nearly everything valuable lives behind a login: your dashboards, your CRM, your admin panels, your accounts. An agent that can't get past a sign-in screen can't touch any of it. Letting the ChatGPT Work agent operate on authenticated sites is what moves it from "can browse public pages" to "can actually do your work," because your work is almost all behind a login.
You log in, the agent continues
The design is sensible about trust. You take over the cloud browser to log in yourself, credentials stay in your hands, then hand control back to the agent to continue. That's the right division: the human handles the sensitive authentication step, the agent handles the tedious task on the other side of it. You're not pasting passwords into a prompt; you're logging in normally and letting the agent proceed.
Persistent login is what makes it usable
The detail that turns this from a demo into a workflow is that your login persists across sessions, so you only sign in once. If you had to re-authenticate every task, the friction would kill it.
