ChatGPT's personal finance tool reaches $20 Plus users

By Steven Van ·

Plan connects bank accounts via Plaid for spending and portfolio questions, after debuting for $100 Pro subscribers.

OpenAI is putting money management inside the chat window. As of June 30, 2026, the personal finance experience in ChatGPT is available to Plus users in the U.S. — you can ask questions about your finances and get clear, sensible answers grounded in your own numbers, rather than generic advice. The feature first previewed for $100/month Pro subscribers and now reaches the far larger $20/month Plus base.

What Plus users get access to

Personal finance in ChatGPT lets you securely connect your financial accounts and then ask questions grounded in that context. Instead of pasting a spreadsheet or describing your budget from memory, you can query your actual spending, subscriptions, and portfolio directly in conversation. OpenAI says the feature is rolling out gradually to eligible Plus and Pro users in the U.S. across web, iOS, and Android.

Connecting accounts and the spending dashboard

ChatGPT walks you through linking accounts securely through Plaid, with support for over 12,000 financial institutions including Chase, Fidelity, Schwab, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One. Once accounts sync, a dashboard gives an up-to-date view of where you stand — portfolio performance, spending, subscriptions, and upcoming payments in one place. That turns a normally scattered picture into something you can actually reason about in a single view.

Financial memories and privacy controls

Beyond connected accounts, you can share context about your financial life — a mortgage, a savings goal, or a major purchase you're planning — which ChatGPT saves to Financial memories to inform future conversations. OpenAI has emphasized user control here: financial data can be deleted at any time, finance information can be removed from memory, and private chats stay separate from your personal finance data.

Why it matters for creators and freelancers

For creators, freelancers, and solo operators who already lean on ChatGPT for writing and admin work, having budgeting and cash-flow questions in the same tool is a meaningful convenience. Irregular income, subscription sprawl, and quarterly tax planning are exactly the kind of messy, personalized problems where grounded answers beat generic tips. It is not a replacement for a financial advisor, but for day-to-day money questions it keeps the answer where you already work.
