ChatGPT and Codex will share one usage limit from December

By Steven Van ·

Plus, Pro, and Business plans draw from one token pool, though OpenAI has not named the December day or a token amount per plan.

From December, ChatGPT and Codex on Plus, Pro, and Business draw from one shared usage allowance. OpenAI says this brings the agentic capabilities of Work into the main ChatGPT experience. The help article names no calendar day in December, and it publishes no token amount for any plan.

Usage on both products is measured in tokens. A heavier model or a harder task spends more of the allowance, so agent-heavy Codex work eats into the same budget as chat. Instant chat does not count. OpenAI expects most people will not wait on a reset more often than they do now.

Remaining usage and reset times show in Settings under Usage. At the limit you can wait for the reset, upgrade, or buy credits for eligible features. The page does not say whether the current five-hour and weekly windows change.
