ChatGPT Comes to Microsoft Word

By Steven Van ·

ChatGPT's new Word add-in drafts and proofreads documents on any plan, with a limited GPT-5.6 Sol preview for Business and Enterprise.

Microsoft Word now has ChatGPT built in as an add-in, letting users draft, revise, proofread, and check formatting without leaving the document. It's available on every plan, including Free, plus Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu, Teachers, and K-12.

  • The same add-in also brings ChatGPT into PowerPoint and Excel, installed once from the Microsoft Marketplace.
  • It can draw on context from connected apps including Outlook, SharePoint, Google Workspace, and Dropbox.
  • Skills let users apply consistent instructions to recurring work, such as executive memos, research summaries, or contract review.
  • Business and Enterprise users also get a GPT-5.6 Sol preview in Word from September 17 to 30, 2026, without it counting against usage limits.
