Canva's AI connector now works inside Google Search's AI Mode

Canva now works inside Google's AI surfaces: the Gemini app and, as of this week, AI Mode in Google Search. Powered by Canva's MCP Server, the integration means a conversation with Gemini can end with a real, editable Canva design rather than a static AI image, generated, edited, and repurposed without leaving the chat.
What the connector actually does
Per Canva's announcement, the AI Connector inside Gemini can generate new designs from a prompt, find and summarize your existing Canva content, make edits through natural language, repurpose a design for different platforms, and convert Gemini-generated images into editable Canva layouts. The output isn't a flat picture; it's a design you (or your team) can keep working on in Canva proper.
On-brand by default
The detail that matters for anyone producing branded content: the integration references your Canva Brand Kit, so designs generated in Gemini come back in your colors, fonts, and visual identity instead of generic AI-slop styling. Droid Life's read on the Search rollout was blunt about the same point: connecting to a real design tool means less slop. It's the same shift OpenArt made with Brand Kit this week, brand context moving from something you paste into prompts to something the platform simply knows.
Everywhere strategy, now with distribution to match
Gemini and Google Search join Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot on the list of AI platforms where Canva's connector already works, and Fast Company calls the result AI graphic design going ubiquitous. The strategy reads clearly: whichever assistant wins, Canva intends to be the design layer inside it. Google Search is the notable escalation, AI Mode puts Canva generation in front of ordinary searchers who never chose a design tool at all.
How to use it
Connect Canva from the Gemini app's connected-apps settings (or via AI Mode in Google Search as it rolls out this week), link your Canva account, and start asking for designs in plain language. If you maintain a Brand Kit, set it up first; it's what separates usable output from generic output.
