Bitrig builds CarPlay apps in its own simulator

By Steven Van ·

Bitrig's simulator runs CarPlay apps without an entitlement, but Xcode's simulator and real cars still need one and a paid Apple Developer account.

Bitrig can now build CarPlay apps and test them in its own simulator, with no CarPlay entitlement needed. The Bitrig Mac app lets a user design a CarPlay app and run it without applying to Apple first, according to the announcement on X.

Where the entitlement is still required

The exemption applies only to Bitrig's simulator. Xcode's simulator and a real car both still require the CarPlay entitlement and a paid Apple Developer account. An app designed in Bitrig can be tested without the entitlement, but it cannot be run in a car without one.
