Auto turns the iPhone camera into mini-apps for what you shoot

Point Auto at a subject and it runs a community-built "Frame", like calorie tracking or plant ID, while also editing and sharing the shot.
Auto is out for iPhone, and it works differently from a normal camera app: instead of just editing what you shoot, it opens a "Frame" for the subject, a mini-app built by the developer or the community that does something with the photo, like tracking calories, trying on outfits virtually, or identifying a plant. Point the camera at something, and Auto picks the Frame and runs it automatically.
The pitch, per the announcement, is turning a camera roll into something useful rather than just a pile of photos. Auto also applies its own edits and produces shareable photos and videos alongside whatever the Frame does.
