We've launched Claude Models on Google Cloud (Anthropic managed)

Anthropic runs the Claude API inside a Google Cloud project, with IAM for access, Marketplace for billing, and fast mode for Opus 5.5.
Anthropic has launched Claude Models on Google Cloud (Anthropic managed), a version of the Claude API that Anthropic operates and that is reached through a Google Cloud project. Google Cloud IAM controls access, and Google Cloud Marketplace handles billing, as listed in the announcement. Fast mode is available for Claude Opus 5.5 on it.
Account setup
Setup needs permission to purchase in Google Cloud Marketplace on the billing account, permission to enable services on the project, and an IAM role that can open the Claude Console. It has four steps:
- Subscribe to the listing in Google Cloud Marketplace.
- Enable claude.googleapis.com and anthropic-managed-claude.cloudpartnerservices.goog on every project that calls the API.
- Click Activate on the Claude page, then complete Anthropic's setup flow with a contact email, organization details, and acceptance of the Commercial Terms of Service and Usage Policy.
- Open the Claude Console from the Claude page and copy the workspace ID, which everyone who calls the API needs.
Setup creates a new Anthropic organization for the Google Cloud project. It is separate from any Anthropic organization a company already has, including a Claude Enterprise organization. Existing discounts can't be applied to past usage, so the docs advise contacting an Anthropic or Google Cloud account representative before starting.
Access and workspaces
There are three predefined IAM roles, granted on the project: roles/claude.viewer (read-only), roles/claude.user (adds creating and changing workspace resources, including sending messages) and roles/claude.admin (adds organization-level permissions). Only roles/claude.admin can open the Claude Console, and email sign-in to the organization is not available.
Setup creates one Default Workspace. More can be added under Settings, Workspaces in the Console. Roles apply to every workspace in a project, so teams that need separate access should each get their own project, with its own Anthropic organization.
Making requests
The SDK client is AnthropicGoogleCloud, which is in beta. In Python it installs with pip install -U "anthropic[google_cloud]". The project and workspace can be set through the ANTHROPIC_GOOGLE_CLOUD_PROJECT and ANTHROPIC_GOOGLE_CLOUD_WORKSPACE_ID environment variables, which the SDK client and the ant CLI pick up. Requests go to a project-scoped base URL on claude.googleapis.com and use an Authorization: Bearer header with a Google access token, not an x-api-key header. The workspace ID is part of the URL.
