Photoshop's Remove Tool can now run its AI model on-device

By Steven Van ·

The beta feature needs an Apple Silicon or NVIDIA/Intel GPU and a roughly 5GB download, but skips the cloud entirely.

The Photoshop Remove Tool can now run its generative AI model on-device instead of in the cloud. In the Options bar, switch the Mode drop-down's Generative AI Processing setting to Device; if it's available, Photoshop downloads a roughly 5 GB model and uses it automatically from then on, letting you keep removing objects when your connection is unreliable or you'd rather not send images to the cloud. You can switch back to Cloud processing from the same drop-down at any time.

This is a beta, and it's GPU-intensive: "Use Graphics Processor" and "Remove Tool: Faster" must be enabled in Photoshop's settings, and at least 10 GB of free disk space is required. On Mac it needs Apple Silicon M1 Max or higher (M4 Max recommended), 24 GB RAM minimum, and macOS Tahoe (macOS 26) or later. On Windows it needs an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-series or higher GPU with at least 14 GB VRAM, or an Intel system with a discrete GPU and 12 GB VRAM (32 GB system RAM if using integrated graphics only). If the Device option is greyed out, the system doesn't meet these requirements. Adobe is asking for feedback in the community forum or the Beta panel's feedback section.
