Reddit starts testing a logged-in-only experience
Reddit is moving toward a logged-in-only experience. In the Q3 2026 shareholder letter, Steve Huffman says this is a key piece of keeping new people, and that testing starts in select markets outside the US in Q4 2026. The letter does not give a worldwide date.
On the October 29 earnings call, Huffman said people should still be able to open reddit.com and get a taste, and that shared links should keep working. Axios reports that the homepage, and content opened from search or a shared link, stay viewable while logged out, that a logged-in account does not require a real name, and that incognito mode in the app is being rebuilt as read-only. For anyone sending a reader to a thread, that logged-out path is the part still being worked out in the tests.
