What is OpenEdit?
OpenEdit is VEED's open source agentic video editor: a pipeline your AI agent drives instead of an app you open. Install it with npx skills add veedstudio/open-edit and agents like Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini CLI can transcribe footage, design caption styles in HTML and CSS, and render finished MP4s locally, then iterate from plain-language feedback. Beyond captions it can cut and reframe footage, layer motion graphics and charts, and turn slides or web pages into video.
The editor is Apache-2.0; the VEED Engine renderer ships as PolyForm Shield binaries with a Chrome-based fallback, and transcription can run through a free veed.io account or fully local via WhisperX. Currently in beta on Apple Silicon Macs.

Which agents work with OpenEdit?
Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini CLI ship with skill files, and guidance loads from an AGENTS.md file so other agents can use the same system.
Is OpenEdit free and open source?
Yes. The editor is Apache-2.0 with no subscription. The VEED Engine renderer is closed source under PolyForm Shield, which still allows commercial video output, and you can swap in Chrome-based rendering instead.
Does OpenEdit upload my footage?
Rendering happens locally. Default transcription sends only the audio to VEED with a free account, or you can run WhisperX for a fully local pipeline.
