# X Numbers Let Anyone Reach You in Chat

By Steven Van · 2026-09-22

Sharing an X Number lets a chosen contact message or call you in Chat without following each other or sending a request.

X is testing a new way to reach people who do not follow you back. An **X Number** is an optional, shareable identifier that lets someone message or call you in Chat once you have given it to them, without either side sending a follow or a message request.

The feature is aimed at contacts you want to hear from but have not connected with on the platform: sharing your X Number is a deliberate opt-in step, separate from your regular [X](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/apps/x-app>) profile and follow graph.
