# Media upload and Post-create size and duration limits

By Steven Van · 2026-09-01

We documented the size and duration limits that apply when uploading media and when attaching it to a Post.

X (formerly Twitter) has published the size and duration limits that apply to media uploads and to attaching that media to a Post, via its [X](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/x>) API. Upload and POST /2/tweets are enforced separately, and the caps follow the posting account's X Premium or verified status rather than the developer's API plan.

- Default accounts can post video up to 20 minutes and 8 GB.

- X Premium and verified accounts can post video up to 125 minutes and 16 GB.

- Direct Message video limits are unchanged: 140 seconds and 512 MB by default, 10 minutes and 1 GB for Premium.

- Posting a video that exceeds the account's duration cap now returns a 403 with the message "This user is not allowed to post a video longer than N minutes."

- The chunked upload quickstart has been updated to use the v2 endpoints, POST /2/media/upload/initialize, /{id}/append, and /{id}/finalize, replacing the earlier command-style POST /2/media/upload flow.
