# Webflow lets designers restrict which components fit in a slot

By Steven Van · 2026-08-28

Marketers now see a list of allowed components if they try to add one that isn't permitted in a slot.

Component slots in [Webflow](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/webflow>) now support restrictions: Designers or Site managers can define exactly which components are allowed in a given slot, rather than leaving it open to anything.

- Designers set the allowed components per slot, so Marketers don't have to guess what fits.

- If a Marketer tries to add a component that isn't permitted, they see a message listing which components are allowed there.

- Slots still allow all components by default, so restrictions can be added selectively without affecting the rest of a component system.

The [update](<https://webflowmarketingmain.com/updates/introducing-slot-restrictions>) is aimed at preventing broken layouts caused by the wrong component being dropped into a slot.
