# What you need to know about vibe coding

Vercel's State of Vibe Coding report finds over 90% of US developers use AI coding tools, and 63% of new users are non-developers.

Vercel published its [State of Vibe Coding report](<https://vercel.com/blog/what-you-need-to-know-about-vibe-coding>), pulling together data on how AI coding tools are changing who builds software and how fast. A few of the findings:

- Over **90%** of U.S. developers now use AI coding tools, and English has become the fastest growing programming language.

- Andrej Karpathy coined the term "vibe coding" in February 2025. By March, investor Garry Tan said AI-powered teams of ten people now do what once took 100 engineers.

- About **63%** of people trying vibe coding tools, such as [Vercel's](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) v0, Lovable, or Replit, are non-developers.

- Adoption reaches large companies too: Amazon launched its own vibe coding tool, Kiro, and more than 30% of Google's new code is AI-generated.

Vercel also argues that security has to move into the tools themselves, since most vibe coders cannot be trained to secure what they build. It points to automated systems that scan for and block vulnerabilities in real time, and kill-switch capabilities to stop insecure deployments, as features platforms should build in.
