# WebSocket support is now in Public Beta

By Steven Van · 2026-06-22

WebSocket support for Vercel Functions is in public beta on all plans, billed only for time spent processing messages.

[Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) Functions can now serve WebSocket connections, opening a bidirectional channel between clients and server-side code for realtime features such as chat, collaboration and interactive AI streaming. The feature is in **Public Beta** on all plans.

WebSocket connections run on Fluid compute and follow the same limits and pricing as other Function invocations. With Active CPU pricing, billing applies only to the time a Function spends processing messages, not to idle connection time.

Connections can be served with standard Node.js libraries, with no additional configuration, and higher-level libraries like Socket.IO are also supported. See the [documentation](<https://vercel.com/docs/functions/websockets>) to get started.
