# Vercel Connect adds managed Stripe API keys

By Steven Van · 2026-10-23

Each agent or task gets its own Stripe key limited to chosen permissions, with rotation from connector settings and a 24-hour overlap for the old key.

Vercel Connect can now create a separate, restricted Stripe API key for each agent or task. When creating a Stripe connector, [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) users can pick **Managed API Key** as the connection method, and Vercel then creates the key in the Stripe account with only the permissions chosen. The existing MCP and bring-your-own API key methods are unchanged, according to the [Vercel Connect announcement](<https://vercel.com/docs/connect>).

## Why per-agent keys

Most apps and agents run on Stripe's default secret key, which has full access to the account. With per-agent keys, each agent gets only the access its job needs. A daily revenue report agent can be limited to read-only access to charges, and an onboarding agent can be limited to write access to customers.

## Key storage and rotation

Vercel creates and stores the key, so there is no secret key to paste. The key can be rotated from the connector's settings without redeploying, and the old key stays valid for up to 24 hours while the switch is made.

## Setting it up

Create a Stripe connector from the connectors directory, choose Managed API Key, pick its permissions, and attach it to a project. The CLI can start the same flow and opens the browser to finish setup:

- vercel connect create stripe --connection-method managed-api-key --name acme-stripe

- vercel connect attach stripe/acme-stripe --project my-app --environment production

At runtime, calling getToken from @vercel/connect with the connector's UID and an app subject returns the restricted key, which can be passed to the Stripe client.

Vercel Connect is available on all plans. It is billed per token request: Hobby includes 500 per month, and Pro is **$3.00 per 1,000** token requests.
