# Use skills in your AI SDK agents via bash-tool

By Steven Van · 2026-01-21

Vercel's bash-tool adds a createSkillTool function so AI SDK agents can load public or private skills into their bash and filesystem tools.

[Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>)'s [bash-tool](<https://vercel.com/changelog/introducing-bash-tool-for-filesystem-based-context-retrieval>) now supports skills for AI SDK agents. A new createSkillTool function discovers skills in a local directory and passes their files and instructions into createBashTool, so an agent's ToolLoopAgent gets both a skill tool and the existing bash, read and write tools in one setup. Skills run through the same isolated execution model as bash-tool's filesystem-based context retrieval, whether that's an in-memory filesystem or a sandboxed VM. Developers can point agents at publicly available skills or write and use their own privately.
